Choosing the appropriate food for your lovely cat or dog maybe is time consuming. But it can be useful when you really love your pets and want them to grow healthy. As for me, I have many cats in home. So far, I have tried several brands of pet food. How your pet reacts is depends on his food. Although the food is not only the single reason of your pet problem, but it takes the real effect. So be careful when giving your pets their food, is a wise way.

Here is the tips on how to determine the proper food for your pet:

Look at the food label

Make sure you get what you want by observing the label precisely. Take for instance, there is a difference within mean and by-products ingredient. Meal is contains of by-products that have been processed to eliminate its fat and water content. As for by-products itself, it refers to proteins that have not yet been processed like head, feet, animal viscera and so on.
Another example, chicken is listed as the main ingredient before soy. So the soy will give more contribution than chicken toward the food weight. That is because chicken contains a lot of water in it, while soy has many dry contents.

I’m sure many of you out there have pets. As a person that love animals very much they have been a big part of my life ever since I was a little kid till now. Pets have been a reliable source of affection for lots of people. Their loyalty and warmth make all us want to give the best possible care for them. Nowadays products that cater for the need of pets has become an industry of their own. No more left over foods for ours dogs, but special dog foods. Countless of other product like toys to make our pets happy. There is even pets beauty salon to pamper and groom them.

What many of us forget however, that pets are just like us human. Despite all of our best possible care for them, they could get sick and need medical attention. Personally I have experience this myself. My eight years old golden retriever was diagnose with cancer a year ago. The vet gave me two option; put him to sleep or operation. Of course the thought of putting my wonderful companion to sleep was awful. For me as long help is still possible, putting him to sleep wasn’t an option. So I decide for the operation, however the medical expenses was very high. I was shocked of the fact how costly it is for pets medical treatments.

Pets insurance is something I highly recommend pets owners to consider. There’s a lot of various kind of health insurance and health maintenance plans out there. These are offered by various insurance companies, and some veterinary practices also offer health maintenance types of plans. Do your research and find the best Pet Insurance deal to suit your need. Most of preventative care is usually not covered  by Pet Insurance and will come out of your own pocket. But at least you will prepared and your high expenses related to illness or injury are covered.

Choosing to bring a new pet into your home is never an easy fact. It’s not all about it’s price or type, but also it brings some new responsibilities to you - you have to take care of him.

First, you must ask yourself some serious questions: Why do you want to adopt a pet? Do you have time for a pet? Can you have a pet where you live? Can you afford a pet? Are you going to move soon? Do you have the right home for the pet you want? Are your children old enough for a pet? Do you have the financial resources for a pet at this time? Are you able to deal with any special problems that might come up with your new pet?
You must answer careful to these questions before choosing a pet.

When you think to get a new pet you think what type it should be. Well, the most common pets are cats and dogs. Some statistics shows that there are approximately 90 million owned cats and 73 million owned dogs just in the United States.
There seems to be more cats than dogs owned as pets. The main reason may be that cats are more easy to take care of than dogs. Cats are also more funny than any other pet. They have an amusing curiosity when you play with them. Every cat is a true individual. So it’s important to take the time to choose a four-footed friend who’s right for you. A cat’s personality, age, and appearance are all things you should keep in mind when making your selection.

Grooming is one of those things that pet owners look at differently. Grooming is an essential part of your pet’s health. Some people look at grooming a dog as an occasional use of a brush or comb. There really is a lot more to your dog’s health than using a brush or comb every once in a while. Think about it, you as a human brush and comb your hair. You do this to keep it manageable and to stimulate your scalp. You also wash your hair with shampoo to remove dirt and oils.

In addition you may use a type of rinse to help condition your hair. Dogs need the same type of care with their coat, i.e. frequent use of a brush/comb, as well as the routine use of a shampoo and conditioner can really benefit your pet. Dogs have different types of coat; therefore, you need to make sure you use the correct shampoo and conditioner.

Just like people, skin, ears, and nails need to be kept in their best condition for the overall best health of your pet.

Pair Banned for Causing Suffering to Greyhounds

Bans For Greyhound Suffering

Rebecca Hagger (20) and Rosemary Hagger (51) both received 10-year bans at Peterborough Magistrates Court on 28 April after previously pleading guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to three greyhounds and failing to meet the welfare needs of another four greyhounds.

Rosemary Hagger was banned from keeping dogs for 10 years and her daughter Rebecca was banned from keeping all animals for 10 years. Rebecca was also ordered to do 200 hours of community service and Rosemary was given a 12-month conditional discharge. The pair from Edgerley Drain Road, Peterborougn, were each ordered to pay £250 in costs.

The RSPCA was contacted in September 2007. Inspectors found three greyhounds which were emaciated and had infected sores, contrary to section 4 of the Animal Welfare Act, 2006. The remaining four were underweight and had flea infestations and were living in dirty conditions with no food or water available, contrary to section 9 of the Animal Welfare Act, 2006.

A vet estimated that two of the dogs had been made to suffer unnecessarily for at least two months and one dog for at least one month.

In mitigation the defendants said that the dogs had belonged to Rosemary’s husband (Rebecca’s father) who had passed away.

The court heard that both defendants had worked in the greyhound racing industry and decided to impose a ban, despite Rebecca still having a job in the industry.

RSPCA inspector Kat Parfitt said: ”Animals deserve much better than the conditions these dogs were kept in and should have access to veterinary treatment when they need it.

“The RSPCA believes that the government must introduce effective national standards to ensure the welfare of racing and ex-racing greyhounds. We also feel that those in the industry must be compelled to ensure provision is made for retired dogs.”

Three of the dogs from the case still need new homes. White and black Boris and Tyler and Wilson, who are both black with white chests, are lovely, friendly dogs who are happy to laze around with just short bursts of exercise. Anyone who feels they can give a greyhound a good retirement home should call the RSPCA Peterborough & District Branch on 01733 248116.

Ealing Council Invents its Own Dangerous Dogs Laws

Published: May 7th, 2008 | Author: danny Add Comment

A recent article in the Ealing Times mentions that Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s) in the Acton area of London have been speaking to dog owners about keeping their dogs on leads and muzzled.Since when have Staffordshire Bull Terriers needed to be kept on leads AND muzzled?

Has a new law been passed by government and they have not told the rest of us?

Apart from those legally and lawfully prohibited breeds that have to be muzzled, of which the SBT is certainly not one, the only dogs that have to be muzzled in public are those that have a Magistrates Court imposed control order. These dogs can be of any breed or crossbreed, from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane to a ‘Heinz 57?.

The difference is that a recognised legally composed gathering of Magistrates, Legal Advisor and lawyers have listened to evidence, formed an opinion and reached a verdict based on the evidence.

Where has this occurred with PCSO’s simply ’speaking’ to dog owners about their dogs being muzzled, where is the legally imposed requirement here?

By focusing on the SBT, the Metropolitan Police demonstrates the breed specific targeting of a dog that is not on any prohibited list. However in accordance with the law of the land, like all other dogs in the UK the SBT may be subject to any dog control restrictions in designated areas.

If there is a requirement for dogs to be excluded from a specific place, it applies to all dogs and does not mean, all other dogs apart from your own.

If an irresponsible dog owner fails to comply with such an order, then quite rightly they risk enforcement action for failing to comply.

The specific targeting of one breed of dog by PCSO’s appears to show a breed specific slant towards SBT, do the PCSO’s ’speak’ to the owners of other dogs too?

Until such time as the UK becomes a police state and the police instead of upholding the law start making it, would the PCSO’s of Acton please stick to it and remember that the SBT does not have to be muzzled in public.
