Cats are a good pet to have. They have the power to entertain themselves rather than screeching at the door all day until you get home. Several can even see after themselves. All you need to do is clean their litter box and replenish their food.

But like with any kind of pet they have their mistakes. One of the hardest of these is the art of spraying. You considered your cat was happy and next thing you know it is distributing its urine all over your fashionable pillows, carpet, and who knows what else.

Most people believe that when cats do this they don’t wish to use their litter box. Yet, this is not what is taking place. More often than not cats spray to distinguish their territory in the home. They pick out a spot that they like and proceed to spray urine on it.

Tips On Making Your Cat And Dog Coexist

Published: Feb 28th, 2009 | Author: ardhi Add Comment

If you have a cat and a dog or are planing to have both, you need to know how to make them coexist. The phrase “fighting like cats and dogs” didn’t come up as someone’s idea of a joke just for cartoons (Tom and Jerry comes into mind). Dogs are often territorial and will fight not just new cats but other new dogs as well. They tend to mark their territory and will fight anyone who invades their space. Cats have the same tendencies and even if they are smaller than to dogs, they will scratch and fight for their territory.

Most pet lovers who have both a cat and dog have a hard time making their pets coexist with each other. The usual response to this is separating the two pets and making sure they won’t meet. This is not really a practical solution to this problem as both pets tend to wander around the house and there will come a time when they will meet. This will also cause a lot of wasted time if you have to allot twice the time for playing with your pets. Another response would be to cage both pets but this method is frowned upon by most pet lovers. The best thing to do is to train both cat and dog to coexist peacefully. In this article is a series of steps to finding harmony between cats and dogs.

Perhaps the hardest thing for pet lovers to do is the introduction. Introducing a new pet requires both time and patience as both cats and dogs requires time to adjust to something new. Both cats and dogs take up to 30 days to adjust. It is even longer if you have older pet, but with proper retraining you can teach your old dogs and cat’s new tricks.

Do Cats Talk?

Published: Feb 25th, 2009 | Author: ardhi Add Comment

Of course they do, they talk to each other and they talk to you.. You just have to learn to be a good listener. It’s sort of like a dog’s training class, the trainer isn’t training the dog, he’s training you.

For instance, my oldest cat, an eight and a half year old Ragdoll, is a whiner. I often ask her if she wants whine with dinner. But, apparently, her whining has gotten her what she wants and she’s not about to change.

So, when she comes into my bedroom at 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning, I first know she wants me to get up. But I’ve come to understand there is probably a good reason she wants me up. She has become the ‘spokesman’ for an empty food dish. But then, she has four other felines depending on her to make sure the food and water fountain are filled and, believe me, she is very good at it because she is persistent.

Then there is Smokey, our seven year old Russian Blue. He is responsible for getting the pet door to their outdoor kennel opened, first thing in the morning. That’s why he is uncharacteristically loud early in the morning. He also takes responsibility for reporting back in, to us and his housemates, if the weather is cold or if it is raining. On cold, wet mornings, he wastes no time with his report. I can tell he wants us to do something about it. I just comfort and sympathize with him until he calms down and finds another spot inside to relax.

From insects to alpacas, pets come in all shapes and sizes. Many families feel that they are not complete without some little (or large) critter to love. In fact, more than 60% of all American households have pets, and many of those have more than one. If you are considering buying or adopting a new pet, you need to make sure that you are already to take on the demands of a furry (or scaly) companion.

Choosing the Right Pet

When most people think of family pets they think of furry one like dogs, cats, and a variety of domestic rodents. While these are common pets, they are far from the only options out there. Fish, reptiles, birds, amphibians, and even insects can all be great pets for a loving family. Choosing the right pet starts with a close look at your current lifestyle.

One of the most important considerations to make is the amount of time you have free to devote to your pet. Dogs, for instance, need daily exercise and grooming. Are you going to be able to provide that? If you have a very busy lifestyle, choose a pet that requires less work to care for. There are many options that fit well into a busy life, including pet insects and reptiles. Some small rodents, like mice or guinea pigs, fit well into busy families.
