The World of Pet Parrots : Important Information

Published: Nov 23rd, 2008 | Author: ardhi Add Comment

In the world today there are hundreds of pet
parrot species. Many of which can be brilliant companions. For the sake of confusion I will include anything parrot like into the category of parrots, e.g. Parakeets. The most popular parrots are often budgies and cockatiels, but if you are looking for something different, there are many more to choose from.

Being the most popular pet bird, a budgie is a great pet for children or people who don’t have the time and money to care for a larger bird. They are cheap to buy and they require only a small/medium sized cage. Budgies can learn to talk although this is rather difficult, but they can be trained to do small tasks. Many owners like to keep them in an aviary or in a larger cage with many more budgies. They live for about 10 years.

Cockatiels are slightly larger and may require slightly more care and attention. It is said that they belong either to the crested parrot family or the cockatoo family. They require a medium sized cage and are quite cheap to buy. They live for about 20 years so a long term commitment is required.

When you bring home a pet, no matter what kind it is, you have to give it a name to make it part of your family. You do have to spend time thinking about suitable names that match the pet itself and its personality. You also have to remember that you will be using this name numerous times during the day so it has to be one that is easy to say and that you like. It also has to be a name that your pet will come to recognize quite easily. You don’t want to use a name that you would feel embarrasses about using in public.

When you have a pet that you train with command words, you have to careful not to choose a name that may rhyme with one of these words. Naming your pet example, will make it very hard to train your pet to understand the word they both sound alike. Dogs, especially, have difficulty distinguishing between words that have similar sounds. Long names are also harder to remember and say than shorter ones. If you do have a registered pet with a really long name, you need to shorten it to something you and your pet find easy. A dog with the official names kipper of Scarborough for example will respond more easily to Skip or Skipper than the full name.

When you have a pet spider, you have to give it a name, unless you just want to call it Spider or Spidy all the time. You may be a fan of Spiderman and name your pet after a character in the movie or the comic book series. Parker, for example, sounds like a nice strong name for a spider. If you wish, you can use the name of one of the villains, but then people may think you have a bad spider. You can also choose a name based on the spider appearance or its scientific classification. How about Rachy, based on the word Arachnid for the class of spiders? There are many choices in spider names you just have to use your imagination.

There are male and female spiders, as you know, so when you do bring home your pet you can choose a name appropriate to the gender. Charlotte is a very popular name for a girl spider based on the spider in the story Web? Spin could be a name for any gender because that is what spiders do spin webs. Webmaker, Webspinner, or even Web are suitable names, but they are not very imaginative and when someone hears the name it won’t raise any eyebrows or invoke any questions about your choice of name.

When you bring home a new puppy
, the first decision you have to make is what you will name this newest member of the family. Just as parents look at lists of names for babies, dog owners look through lists of names to find unusual dog names that suit the breed and personality of the puppy. Some dog owners like to name their small breeds of dogs after the names of perfumes, while large dogs tend to have names reflecting their size and skill and are named after Greek and Roman gods or famous warriors in history.

If you want something completely unusual in a name one thing you can do is choose a name you like in English and then look for the translation of that name in other languages. You do need to still adhere to the norm in choosing a name that is short and easy to say. This will make it easier for both you and the dog to get used to the name that you will be using many times during the day.

Choosing a Name for Your Pet – There’s More to it Than What Meets the Eye

Published: Nov 8th, 2008 | Author: ardhi Add Comment

Deciding on a cool name for your new pet can be harder than it seems. For instance if you are going to keep this pet for a long time you are going to want to get a name that you will still like years down the line. If you were to get a cockatoo you will need to think of a name that may last upwards of 80 years. This article shows you some advice on naming your pets.

Firstly, you should choose a name that isn’t too long or has too many syllables. This is an important point; you won’t want to call out a long name every time you call to your pet. It is also very important for the pet as long names can be hard for your pet to recognize quickly. A long name such as ‘Abbie Aggy’ will probably be more confusing that ‘Kat’. This obviously depends on the pet, but as a rule of thumb long names aren’t usually a great idea.

Secondly, it is also a good idea to not name the pet rude or embarrassing names. Names such as ‘Captain Death’ may be embarrassing calling out in the park; also you may not like these names years later so be careful.
