4 Aspects Of Proper Pet Care

Published: Feb 9th, 2010 | Author: ardhi Add Comment

Being a pet owner is one of the most exciting and fun experience one person can have. Studies even show that owning a pet provides great health benefits. People have different reasons why they want to have the most domesticated animals like a dog or a cat. Most seek the loyal companionship, active playfulness, great comfort or unparalleled joy that they give. To reciprocate all these pleasant things that a pet brings, owners must ensure that they are also able to provide for the various needs of their dogs and cats. There is more to their basic needs. They also need love and affection.

There are 4 important aspects that every owner must look at to ensure proper pet care. These requirements can be greatly supported by pet products specifically made for them.

Pet Grooming

What’s the first thing people notice in a pet? Of course, it’s the look.

Every pet must have proper grooming. Good hygiene must be observed. Regular bathing, clean paws or short claws, and well-combed smooth fur are the most common practices of keeping pets clean and pleasant. Dogs are usually taken to groomers for professional service, but for those who are not willing to spend, dog grooming supplies are available. Why not design a personalized groom shop right inside the house? Get a dog tub, dog shampoos and conditioners, paw-dicure set, etc.

Dispelling the Myths About Invisible Fences, No Bark Collars and Dog Training Shock Collars

Published: Dec 16th, 2008 | Author: ardhi Add Comment

The use of electronic training devices has become increasingly widespread. In 2006 pet owners worldwide purchased more than 500,000 remote training collars, over 1,000,000 containment systems, and almost 900,000 bark collars.

Why the popularity? These training systems have become much more affordable, and pet owners are finding them to be a safe, effective means for controlling the various behaviors that they find unacceptable.

As sales of these products increase, so do the not so favorable opinions about them — that they make dogs aggressive, that there is a greater chance of failure than success when using them, that the shock they deliver is painful, that they will result in significant injury to your pet.

These can all be classified as “myths”, since there is very little hard data available to prove or disprove them. However, recent studies are providing results that allow for a more reasoned analysis of this technology.

Electronic Dog Training

Published: Dec 16th, 2008 | Author: ardhi Add Comment

Once people become familiar with electronic training products and use them properly, they find the methodology is proven, efficient, economical, and ethical.

The type of training in which an electronic aid is used is critically important, for it will influence the type of product and methods used. Is the equipment being used to teach a new obedience command, correct some common misbehavior, or is it being used to reinforce another electronic training methodology?

Factors affecting success Before an electronic training tool is used, it is strongly suggested that the entire training situation be re-examined. There are three major considerations in this re-evaluation:

* Does the owner know what he is doing, does he understand the training process, and can he apply proper methodology to a specific situation?

* Is the owner training the dog properly, does he have a plan for this specific misbehavior, and is he executing that plan appropriately and correctly?

* Is the dog trainable? Is the dog in question stubborn, set in his ways, or unintelligent?

What to Do if Your Dog Runs Away

Published: Dec 15th, 2008 | Author: ardhi Add Comment

It’s distressing and scary when your dog keeps running away. Often, a little bit of proactive thought will prevent this problem.

1. You can make sure your dog cannot run away by leashing them before you open the outside door. Although this is a fairly drastic first step, it will assist you in teaching the dog not to bolt out the door. When he behaves, you need to reward him. When he bolts, you must speak firmly and pull him back by the collar, if possible. Don´t scream at your dog. The tone of your voice and, if needed, a small yank on the collar, will get the point across to most dogs. If your dog has been escaping out of the house for a while, it may take some time to correct this behavior. Remember, you´re introducing a concept that´s new and different to your pet.

2. You need to be sure that your dog is identifiable and has a collar. A dog with a collar is also easier to control. A dog with an I.D. tag can assist others in locating its home. A microchip embedded in the skin of the dog is another good idea. For more information on microchips, you should contact your vet, your local police department, or animal protection agency to find out the type of microchip most often used in your area. There are several different systems, and they´re not always compatible.

Why Dogs Bark

Published: Nov 10th, 2008 | Author: ardhi Add Comment

Dogs bark. It is part of their normal and natural communication and behavior. Dogs can bark for appropriate and good reasons, such as when strangers approach our house, they hear an odd noise, or they are herding sheep. Most of us want our dogs to be “watch dogs” and alert us to anything unusual. But dogs can also bark inappropriately. In two scientific surveys of dog owners, approximately 1/3 of them reported their dogs barked excessively. To control barking in our dogs, we first need to understand why they are barking.

Types of canine vocal communication

Dogs, as well as wolves use many types of vocalizations to communicate. This communication starts very early in life. Young puppies make a mewing-like sound when they are searching for food or warmth. Louder crying sounds are heard if the puppy is hurt or frustrated. As dogs get older, they make five main classes of sounds: howls, growls, grunts, whines, and barks. Each of these classes of sounds is used in different situations.
